Exiting Newport

Sun Aug 18 2019 11:19:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)

We were up early this morning to catch the ebbing tide out of Newport. 4:30am early. We left dock at 6:10am with no fog and large swell and rolly waves. The wave are off our beam (side) so they rock us. Reports said 2-4ft swell, and as we left it increased significantly. We have been averaging more like 3-6ft with the occasional 9ft and while Graham was on watch 12ft (at least).

The rocky of the boat means things clank and clink together. Particularly bottles. I have been stuffing towels around the boat silencing them. We have seen a few whale spouts on the horizon, a floating jelly fish, a playful seal/sea lion and crab/shrimp pots. The swell is so big that the pots are fully submerged so I chant see them until we are 5-10 ft away. They are eerie siting a foot beneath the surface and glowing green from the water.

Skies are sunny, no wind, just motor sailing. We are making good time to Crescent City, CA. Expected arrival time tomorrow morning to afternoon.
