Exiting Newport

Sun Aug 18 2019 11:19:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) We were up early this morning to catch the ebbing tide out of Newport. 4:30am early. We left dock at 6:10am with no fog and large swell and rolly waves. The wave are off our beam (side) so they rock us. Reports said 2-4ft swell, and …

Yaquina Bay- entrance

Wed Aug 14 2019 06:52:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) We are heading to Yaquina Bay. It will be our first bar crossing. Timed so we reach the entrance on a lessening flood tide. Coast Guard says it is clear visibility for 500 yards. But right now we are in fog. It’s a weird but pleasant …

We are in Newport, OR! The bar crossing was smooth, but foggy and damp. We are here for a few days waiting the weather out. A nice place to be.

So we are just off Rockaway Beach, OR…

So we are just off Rockaway Beach, OR and still one night from Newport, OR. We should arrive in the early morning. Perfect to prep for the correct tide and current entrance. Since leaving Port Angeles, WA it has been an amazing passage. Granted, we have been motor sailing the entire way, but I would …

All is well as we pass the Columbia

Tue Aug 13 2019 14:20:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) All is well as we pass the mouth of the Columbia. Crew happy, well fed, and well rested. Still motoring because there isn’t enough wind to keep the sails from flogging. Mainsail up with a reef for stability to ease the motion. Still planning to stop …
