Tomorrow we sail for La Cruz. We are buddy boating with SV Distant Star another fabulous teen boat. Man, I can’t wait to reach a place I can stay for a while. It is 2 full days sailing to La Cruz. There is a big cruiser community there with lots of kids of all ages. We are anxious to join them. Ready to settle into a place, meet people, find community.
Our land crew have been amazing support this entire trip from Seattle to Canada, down the west coast of the US, and now down Baja. Thankfully, we haven’t had any emergencies needing our land crew, but knowing that people who support and love us are ready to help if needed relieves a lot of worry about ‘what if’.
What is land crew? Land crew is a person or in our case, people, who we keep apprised of all our immediate and long-term plans and what to expect in way of possible hiccups. They have our float plan, and know how to respond in an emergency. Yes, we are lucky enough that all our family and friends have been immensely supportive and love us. But you can’t leave everyone in charge; land crew are our point people just in case something goes wrong.
We don’t dwell too much on what can go wrong. Stuff goes wrong wherever you are, however you live. But safety and contingencies are not only common sense, but can be critical to cruising life.
So thank you very much to our land crew. For all your worry, and all your watching. For all you support and care, time and effort. For following us from shore as we move to more distant ones. We love you lots.
