Yesterday we motored from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Punta de Mita. We lounged at the La Cruz anchorage (yes, that’s a bit of sarcasm) from Dec 13, 2019 (yes, that was a Friday) until March 30, 2020. That is quite a stretch of time. During our time in La Cruz we went from blissfully/crazily prepping for our passage to the Marquesas to wondering what was happening as Covid-19 swept the global and became a pandemic, to knowing our plans must change. Looking back a little bit so much has happened that the beginning of the pandemic seems a lifetime ago already. And yet, I am sure the virus is just getting warmed up.
So on to our change of plans! Why aren’t we sailing back to the US? Lots of reasons, but first, we don’t have a land house or regular jobs, so land life is extra complicated. We haven’t been to the Sea of Cortez yet. We were going to miss it for the opportunity to be in the South Pacific with 3-4 other teen boats at least. Now many of those are going to the Sea as well. The pictures we have seen paint a beautiful desolate landscape perfect for isolation and social distancing, slowing down, and moving on from boat projects.
I started off our arrival Punta de Mita by getting stung by an overly friendly honey bee. Poor creature didn’t make it. The sting still itches. Tomorrow we set off early for Chacala, looking to wet our feet with day hops. It feels like forever since we last sailed/moved around. Then if the calm weather holds we will revisit Isla Isabela. We really liked it there.
Sending lots of love and warm wishes to everyone!
