We’re downwind

Sun Apr 24 2022 19:44:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)

The winds have dropped and shifted considerably and we’re now sailing downwind. It’s completely different than the prior days, it’s now calm and quiet other than the shock loads when the boat rolls and the sail collapses due to lack of wind then suddenly filling. They’re not good for the rig, but we’ve done all we can to reduce them without giving up momentum. If this was a short sail of a few days, I’d save the wear on the rig by bringing down the sails and turning on the motor, but on such a long jump that isn’t an option. The crew is in good spirits and our passage bingo game with our buddy boat Pablo is well underway. We will fill you in (ha) on that more later. In the meantime the thing I can’t seem to find is sleep. I always have trouble sleeping the first night or two when we go on passage. I’m pretty exhausted now and hoping this is the night I’ll finally be able to fall asleep. I’m off watch soon, wish me luck!
