High: Pablo was in vhf range; we can see them on AIS again
High: first baby squall approaching; getting buckets of rainwater to wash the crew and rig
Low: 3 squall cells merging into one giant one, losing wind
Low: 2 deployments of genoa pole
Low: arguing with spouse
Low: part of the sacrificial genoa sun cover is ripped
High: finding wind again
High: successful redeployment of genoa and pole
High: realizing the sacrificial bit on the genoa doesn’t matter because it is sacrificial for the sacrificial sun cover
High: making up with spouse
High: hot dinner of tortellini
High: sailing in you underwear because why bother if your shorts are just going to get wet sitting on soaked cushions
I got the midnight to 3 am watch. Kirsten and Rachel we’re on before me. I come up and Kirsten says, “there’s lightning but it’s far away. Dad says it’s ok. We can’t hear it.” As I was still waking up I must have sounded a bit alarmed when I said, “Lightning?”, because she ended up repeating her mantra 3 times. Good job keeping your mom on an even keel kid.
I remain grateful for all these firsts we are experiencing and for there being more highs than lows at the end of the day.
